I have just bought a EOS 10d and can't find a black&white option. Is there not one or have I just missed something?

The 10D does not have this setting, although it is easy enough to achieve in PS post processing.

Do you know if the 20d has this setting as maybe I'll go back and change cameras...

Yes, it does ... but as stated you can achieve the same (usually better) results from almost any post processing software. Not really the best reason to upgrade cameras ... but if you're looking for an excuse, have at it ;)

i think none of the slr cameras have black and white settings. if you want black and white images, do it in photoshop. heres a tutorial http://ww.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/b-w_better.shtml

20D does have it, because I use it now and then.

The 20D definitely has it, along with a few other effects. I believe the new Rebel model also has this feature.
However, I agree with an earlier post, it does not strike me as a "must have" when PS is available.
