I've searched and read but I'm not quite getting it.
I have 2 Pocket Wizard Plus II's and 2 580EX II's. I'd like to run one PW on the camera and have both flashes off camera.
Do I need a third PW or some other hardware to do this? I've read you have to connect the PW to the flash with the hot shoe, how?
Help is appreciated, thank.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Yes you can use a PW to trip the master 580 II off camera in manual mode, and in turn control the slave 580. The sync speed is limited to 1/125.
Since the PC port of the 580 II is disabled in master mode, a hot shoe adapter is needed, or modified the PC port directly connected to the hot shoe.
This hot shoe adapter will work, just connect the sync cord from the PW to the adapter.

If you are going to be using the flashes indoors, then setting up the PW units and the flashes in the hybrid configuration will work just fine. However, if you expect to be shooting outdoors, you'd do better to get another PW unit and have both flashes triggered via the PWs.

This is the answer to the question I was going to ask today. I wonder why they disable it in manual.

A cheap and simple (indoor) solution is to get an optical slave adapter and plug it into the PC socket of one of your 580EX IIs. This will allow 1/250 shutter speed.

It's not disabled in manual mode. It's disabled in master mode.

Thanks for the help, everyone.
I'm not sure what's meant by the quote above. Can somebody explain further?

Some users rewired the PC port internally, so the PC port can be used as the trigger connection as the master unit. Of course in doing so would void the warranty.
