More contrast would be good. Looks a little flat IMO.

I agree with a contrast bump and I'd crop it vertical and PP in some sparks. It doesn't look like welding without some fiery sparks.

Either that, or take it when he's actually welding. Keep the shutter speed relatively low so that the slag leaves streaks rather than just bright spots.

Other than adding to the previous comments about contrast/saturation, I have a couple of comments here about the composition. When I saw the title "welding", I had expected one of those "industrial shots" where you see the lovely sparks flying everywhere with the welder's mask lit by the light of the sparks. To me the shot here is a rather static. Other than the person wearing the welding mask, there's nothing here that really gives me any sense of anything actually happening. In addition to that, the shot is way too busy...the Windex bottle in the foreground, the bandsaw and anvil off to the side, the dirty rag can, all that stuff in the background...all of this clutter really detracts from the main subject. To me this just looks like a snapshot someone took of someone else working on a bicycle in their shop class. There's just not a lot of interest to this shot in my opinion.
Just my $.02 worth,
Jim

I've gotta agree with Walczak, I don't see any welding going on which kills it for me.

I agree with all that posted. The contrast needs a bump, and take it while the welding is going on. Oh, and for those that don't know: That is TIG welding, and it wont be throwing any sparks; just a nice soft arcy glow.

Thanks for all of the input. I totally agree. I took it down off of my flickr so it doesnt clutter everything else.
cheers
