Hello,

My daughter has a Kodak Easyshare something and her 3264 x 2448's are around 800kb in size whereas my AI590 are 3 to 4MB in size. Could this come from different color settings? I am pretty sure she uses the Auto mode for all she does.

Anyhoo, thanks!

Mike

Your file sizes are maybe on the large end for an 8 MP file, but hers are decidedly small. Factors which most affect file size are ISO and compression setting. If you're shooting Large Superfine, expect files in your size range at ISO 80 or so. Increasing ISO will give you still larger files. But decreasing compression to Fine will give you files about 20-25% smaller. She may be using even more compression, which can cost fine detail, or even using less than the maximum resolution her camera can produce. If you set your A590 to "Normal" compression (I'm not recommending this; I shoot Superfine all the time; memory's cheap) you'll see files of 1 MB or less at Large resolution too.

Hey Jon, thanks for the info. I actually understood all you mentioned.

I guess I needed reassurance that I was using my camera correctly, given my files sizes were larger than hers. Lord knows I need that little 590 camera to do 99% of the work to make a decent picture if I'm the one pushing the button! I've learned a great deal about photography from here, but still have a very long way to go.

Thanks again for your help.
