I had one of my flashes batteries die on me, so I pointed the other one at the umbrella and it gave some light, to the right of the frame there's a mirror reflecting some of the natural light. I may have shot this for a very certain someone, but I won't admit anything. Anywho, what do you think?

i think the lighting is good, love the background.
I just dont think your expression is very good.
I like to try to catch myself in a natural position (hard to do) using my remote control and timer.

Karusel,

what serissolution said.

I think that you should sneer more ... the pose really shouts out for a more arrogant look. Too 'nice'

Best regards,
Andy

I find this very interesting, as has been said there's nothing particularly good or bad about this shot, you should try to look more natural (who am I to say, it's taking me weeks to pluck up the courage to do a self portrait).

But what's interesting is the lack of interest (and positive comment) compared to shots of girls. There's a very ordinary self portrait by a pretty girl (bad angle, bad background, bad lighting) and everyone feels a need to comment (without critiquing the photo - for the most part). However a better effort here by a good looking guy, and no-one seems to want to offer any encouragement.

Phil, thank you for stating what I've been thinking for days.

Guess I'm just a coward. But I'm good for egging on the braver souls, so feel free to have another go at em... go on you can take em... yeah give em hell... ooh quick someones coming leg it.

Thanks Smudge, I haven't been hanging around here long, but it's something that's starting to bug me, I'll probably give up on the forum anyhow (the above is only part of the reason).

I'm jealous! He's going to steal all the beautiful women from me!

I like the photo, I think I would like it better if you were looking away..So did you catch that certain persons attention yet?

I most definetely did, but a very long time ago, and so far, I was the one being impressed by her photos, hopefully she'll like mine. ;)

As for my goofy expression, I can say this: O, pocketwizzard where art thou?

I've set up a camera on a tripod and I placed the tripod on a table so camera was near the ceiling, so for every shot I had to climb on a box I put beside the table, press the shutter release, jump down, go to the marked spot, try not to blink when it clicks, ignore the bright sunlight from the window, pretend like the camera is not even there and try to look natural, only better. So yeah, peace of cake. :D

I'll put up some other shot leter today, still, this was the one I sort of liked most...

As for the lack of interest, let's face it, the majority of members here are male and, would you, for example, rather look at a topless man, or a topless woman? Yeah, me too.

I think the wall in the background gives the picture a really cool feel. Especially with the black and white.

Well, most of them look pretty much the same.. I tried something including my reflection in a really old mirror, but it turned out to be a really bad idea. Now I call that mirror Quasimodifier. And it's not funny.

Here's one of other shots (unedited), if you look closely, to the lower right corner there's some dust, some on my jacket, some airborne. :D Taking an auto portrait is actually more difficult than one would think, I guess...

I like this one, a more natural look.

As u said, making self portraits is more difficult than we expected (at least me) but I think u did great, I like the lighting and the colors.

I like your portrait a lot
(the lighting on your face is not great in the bl/wh)

but you look good in it. if you know what I mean:confused:
good to see you

l like the idea of the brick wall behind you,
( in both shots... bl/wh and colour )

http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif but the plastering higher up (left side especially, behind your head) leaves a lot to be desired

I like the second one much better. The first one lacked definition between your jaw and neck. Maybe that is from to much light? I think the 2nd one could be immproved by cropping above the bright reflection on your jacket. It is very distracting to me. I think just above the logo on the jacket would be a goodplace. Makes the image more attractive to me.
