I shoot commercially with the 1DS Mark II and love it. I shoot everything raw. The problem is that I have 4 kids and never want to bring my rig w"flash bracket along because I am usually carrying someone or something heavy. I need to buy a compact yet high quality camera. Can anyone suggest anything?
Thanks.

Depending on your definition of "compact", I'd say look at the G-10 (which does RAW), the SX-10 or the SD990. All of those offer everything from full auto to full manual settings. The first two will also accept an E-TTL external flash when you need more light but aren't running all over the place.

You might also consider the Panasonic LX3.

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any experience to share about the quality of print reproduction?

Not with those specifically, but I've been able to up-res a 4 MP from the A80 or a 7.1 MP from the A620 and gotten good 8-1/2x11 calendar pages at 300 ppi. They'll not challenge your 1Ds II, but they're definitely usable.

I take my SD900 up to 20"X30" with great results the SD990 should be better, the 990 looks better on my pc screen but have not printed over 8X10 yet just got it for Xmas

You might check this CHDK site if you have never seen it before. These hacks will allow you to shoot raw with just about any A-series Canon, plus many others:
