420EXII preflash with focus on the *

Is it possible to have the flash preflash to work in this configuration? I got a 430ex2 for Christmas and noticed it onlypre-flashed when I set focus back to the shutter button. I have a 30D and am just figuring out this external flash stuff. Thanks in advance.

i don't think it's possbile to make it lock exposure and focus with the * if that's what ur trying to ask?

For the 30D if you want to set the * button for focus lock then it is no longer available for FEL.

The flash fires a pre-flash every time if it's in ETTL. You don't have to do it with the *.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the OP didn't mean preflash, but meant the flash fired by pressing the star button for ETTL II to do it's measurements for Flash Exposure Lock.

If you want to FEL on some area then recompose and shoot I understand. If not the pre-flash is automatic in ETTL any way you trip the flash.
