well, i know some of the hardcore photographers may not like graphics being used along side of photography but thats what i do, both photographer and graphic designer. anyways, this is my latest piece done for a new local amateur model. used one strobe, one camera flash and the pop up flash on my canon XT.

thanks. my friend gave me some sound advice which was to do my designs from an emotional standpoint rather than a competitive standpoint, so im trying to just do things the way i want to do them and want them to look rather than doing them to appeal to other people.

So why the bar code?

the bar code is my logo. i wanted to use something that didnt have "photographer" written on it. after a couple of ideas in my design class and looking at the logos other photographers used i went with the bar code. worked it in to a business card and it looked pretty good so i stuck with it.
heres my business card, it was going to be black and green but i couldnt reproduce the green i wanted in CMYK so i went with an orange instead. the card can be both vertical or horizontal.

Personally I have no problem at all with the whole graphics thing. So much of what so many people do on this board really is "graphic art" any more (even though many won't admit it) it's just done in a seamless way that looks like a normal image. As far as the first shot goes, over-all I do like it but personally I think the white outline around the model is a bit much. To me it tends to pull the eye away from the model instead of bringing it to her (especially the bright little white flowers). I think I would have eased back on that a bit...maybe went with a color other than white and maybe a bit smaller on the outline. Otherwise, again I think this is nice work and well done.
Peace,
Jim

hey, what monitor are you using, i ask because im trying to see if my screen is calibrated right. i just recently got a spyder2 and calibrated my monitor and the "white outline" ur talking about is an light orange on my screen.

I see the orange throughout the entire photo. I do have a calibrated monitor and although web browsers have no color profile, it still looks good to me.
The hilights on the models face do look white, but then again they match the outline.

yo, firefox now has the ability to add color profiles. it makes a pretty nice difference too. i always thought that my photos came out unsaturated when i uploaded them on photobucket but then i added my color profile everything looked spot on and identical to the photoshop and lightroom outputs.....check it

I like the colorful swirls around her, but the angle and those rounds things gives a feel of tension. Looks like she's falling and is barely hanging on and those round "lids" are pushing her down. Just my opinion.

I like her and the light around her, but the background ruins it IMO. Looks like a messy shot, except for the fantastic foreground.

Yea...your right, it is a light orange. Part of it is that I've had the flu all week so my eyes are "seeing" as good as they usually do. Part of it though is that I also got a new vid card last week which seems to have overridden my calibration settings and I haven't had time to get it fixed. That said, the orange still looks to bright to me. Considering the model's complexion, I think I would have gone with a blue or even a purple....but that's strictly a personal taste thing.
Peace,
Jim

thanks. see i love that background!!! to me its my favorite part of what i did to the pic since all they where was frizbees hanging up. i tend to go overboard though, but the frizbees by them selves didnt really flatter me.

and thats what i was going for, something really unique and questionable. something that didnt have a name for what i did ya know. i didnt feel the need to play it safe and cater to anyone elses taste but mine on this one. just wanted to see if other ppl had the same taste as me =)
