Found this planter in the woods in Middle Tennessee.
It must go back a few years, it has wooden spoked wheels.
40D; 17-40L @ 17mm

Also; the second photo is of plowed ground near the planter, looks like the farmer turned the ground and never came back, cedar trees have created a canopy over the whole hill side.
40D; 10-22 @ 10mm

I wonder why pieces of equipment like this, very expensive at the time, end up left in the woods? I've seen other cases where farm equipement seems to have been deserted.

These are really cool photos. I bet there is an interesting story that explains the abandoned equipment & field.

I'm quite sure most of the time it just becomes obsolete and by the time it is replaced there is little interest from other parties so it just gets tucked off to the side and forgotten about. There are few different antique farming implements scattered around the front of my moms property which is still a pretty large chunk of the original farm, really cool pieces of machinery. I think the best part about them is that they really haven't degraded much over the years, I feel with an afternoon and some grease most of the ones out at my moms could be perfectly operational again.

Oh and cool shots! I really like the second one.

I could not tell you what happened, it is in a park that has been there for many years. While looking around the area you could see evidence of an old homesite, the poor owner could have died or may have had to go live with family leaving it all behind. Thanks for all the comments.

Unfortunately I was thinking the same thing...family tragedy. But even so...you would think that the family would have proceeded to reap the harvest once the effort and expense had been made to turn the soil. On thr brighter side maybe the family found itself in exponentially better circumstances, and abandonned the farm with glee? (my 'half-full' side showing though....)
