Ian and I went back out to see if the owls were still hanging about. We only saw a couple so it would seem that they are slowly making their way out of our area. It's been a glorious couple of months with them here but I'm afraid it's all coming to a halt.

Thanks to you guys, we too have had the opportunity to see these great pictures. Thanks for all of them. The first one is amazing. Look at the eyes. It almost looks as though it is cross eyed.

WOW great shots. At least your owls stay out in the light. We've got a great horned owl out here that sits up in the only tree in the refuge that does not get any light. :( Once again great shots!

Holy sun hat Batman! There is a definate lack of cover on the north 40. Time to go shopping for a new hat or a dish cloth.:):)
Lamplight- Yup, Realtree 3D Advantage lens shade, applied with a lot of camo tape.

Nice owls buddy, not so nice bald spot shot:):):):)
Now where did I put that "floundering in the snow shot"?

Incredible images again Sheldon! Just amazing opportunity that I am so glad you could share with us.

Who's that handsome hunk of a Hunter in the photos? He needs a nice white and yellow dishcloth to protect his otheriwise unprotected scalp from the sun for sure! ;)

Excellent, as always. :D

I'm a bit intrigued by the ISO values, too. 250 and 160? I didn't know the 1DMkII had intermediate values. I've always wanted that in my 10D and 20D. Hell, my Olympus C-8080WZ can do it, why can't these? Looks like I'll have to start saving my pennies for a 1-series body...

The wife bought me Tilly hat for Christmas, but I'm looking for white dish cloth with a red stripe around it for everyday apparel:):):):)

Great shots, as always. Only critique is slightly blown out area on back of Ian's head. (Reminds me all to much of my own, much larger, reflector).

Seriously, we have all been privileged to see the fine work you guys have posted for us, and we all thank you very much.

Reflector....LOL.Now I know why Sheldon had be standing at a 45 degree angle to the owl:)
He will be screwed when I start wearing my dishcloth:):):):)
Chris, the lens in #3 is the 300 f/4 with a custom camo lens hood (tape)

Sheldon:
You give me hope that someday I'll take positively stunning pictures too someday. At least I have the glass now.

As to your friend with the excessive flesh showing in the last picture, may I suggest the following:

Wow, Sheldon. I didn't see these until today. But, as usual, they're all great shots. That 300 f/2.8 really is awesom, isn't it? And I'm sure it helped a lot that you had a couple of handsome subjects to shot, the winged kind and otherwise.

http://www.ronco.com/products/glhHairSystem.di4?productID=11I was thinking of mowing the living room carpet and glueing the clippings over the empty spot. Hell of a lot cheaper than sending $19.99 to the huckster.

On that last shot . . . how does one set for correct 'exposure' when there is a glaring 'hot spot' in the view finder? This must have been bracketed?

Shooting highly reflective surfaces is always problematic.

I don't know, Ian. I tried gluing carpet clippings to my bald spot, now my picture is posted as "what is this animal?".
