Hi all. We are shooting with a 10d using either the large fine or raw settings. When we went to MPIX to print some of our photos, such as an 8x10, it would chop off an important portion of the photo (such as feet in a full body shot). Is there something we are missing before we go to print...we are new to this and haven't had any of our photos printed yet. We want to make sure that our photos can be made into any size print our customer chooses without losing anything important in the photo. What are the correct steps to take in preparing your photo to be printed in particular sizes? We are using photoshop and a lot of these particular photos have been cropped at this point already. Some have not been at all, but seem to have the same problem (such as a landscape print.
Help!!!!

Unfortunately, there's no such thing as a universal aspect ratio that will insure that the three popular print sizes, 4x6, 5x7, and 8x10, will yield perfect results from the same crop. The best solution is to crop an image to the necessary aspect ratio for each print size. If you'll be printing different sizes from the same image crop than it's best to crop at an 8x10 aspect ratio and allow equal amounts of extra real estate beyond the subject matter on each of the long sides so that important stuff isn't cropped out for 4x6 and 5x7 prints.

Thanks for the information...how do you set the aspect ratio in photoshop. I never knew about this and when I look in my manual (classroom in a book for photoshop), the index doesn't list anything for fixed aspect ratio.

You can easily get all of your image by changing the crop sizing. You've found that 8x10 cuts off some of the image so use 7x10 or 7.5x10 to get what you want. The only difference on the final print is some extra border.
