in my opinion and many others, yes. the compression is also rather friendly to the likes of the 5D Mark II with their H.264 type. in addition, it seems you can embed HD videos (still trying to figure out the code for that one) and that's a plus over Vimeo's free service.

here is text comparison of the features between both YouTube and Vimeo. while each has their trade-offs, Vimeo appears to have more. however, whether or not theses trade-offs are necessarily that to you is certainly a subjective manner.

If you put &fmt=22 at the end of a link it goes directly to the HD version on youtube.

ex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VjRpTzKt3Y&fmt=22

Okay, this is very interesting. But I'm a bit confused. I upload videos on YouTube quite frequently, and one of the things that is frustrating to me is the video quality. Are you saying that I can upload HD quality videos on YouTube now? If so, how?

sys, export in 720p format, h.264 codec, two-pass encoding, preferably vbr, at least 3Mbps video bitrate, then upload that to youtube.

optimize your results by not compressing with your editing program, but MPEG StreamClip -- it passes over the video three times before compressing it and while it may take a bit longer, boy does it pay off.

on my pc, mpeg streamclip will not open avchd mts files from the hf11.

since it appears to be regurgitated quicktime, i guess that it must serve some purpose on a mac, but i can't see any need for it on a pc.

*EDIT* - Nevermind...I guess it worked using 720p wmv. Apparently it just takes awhile for HD option to show.

Can anyone help me out with uploading to youtube from Premiere Elements 7? I can render to .mov, mpeg2, flash, and wmv among other things, but nothing seems to work (I don't believe that PE7 supports Mpeg4). I've tried rendering a couple of different ways and uploading to youtube, but they all upload as standard def and look horribly compressed. 720p wmv looks great on my computer, but horrible on upload. Both the mpeg2 and .mov didn't look great on my Vista machine (and also looked horrible on upload), but that may be because I only did a one pass render with those formats.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm rendering at 1280 x 720, 30fps, progressive, bitrate no lower than 4mbps. Am I just missing something or do I really need mpeg4?

FYI - I tried these settings, and the video was still heavily compressed when uploaded (with no HD option)

I'm uploading a 5d2 video to youtube as we speak. I'll report back how it looks when done. My pc is too slow to play these videos sadly. I think I need to reload the OS becuase it used to be screaming fast! I have a p4 3.6 ghz with 8 gigs ram and running 64 bit vista.

Check your running processes. It seems like your pc should be able to play the videos just fine. You might also try VLC player, as Quicktime isn't the best on windows. If you're talking about playing HD videos through youtube or vimeo, you need a pretty fast connection to stream them.

FYI, it seems like the youtube uploader is broken. The only way that I could get my videos to upload was to upload with the batch uploader (there is a link to it on the standard upload page).

i imagine that the p4 won't be nearly fast enough to decode the 5d video stream... it should work for the youtube hd videos, tho.

What is the limit to upload a HD video file to youtube? I know Facebook has about a 1 gig or 20min limit. Normally that is about 4 minutes or less when recording on my 5DII.

I hope Youtube offers a higher limit.

Youtube is 1gig or 10min 59secons. It's probably best to render to a more compressed file though so your upload times aren't insane. I was getting files of about 150mb for a 4min file with wmv 720p. I'm still trying to find the best format for youtube though...for some reason my files look really bad in "standard" on youtube but they look good in HD. It seems that other people can get decent results in "standard".

Try doing a 2 pass render. I haven't tried it with mpeg2 yet, but it seems to help for wmvs (720p 30).

Youtube offers 1gig/10 minutes for standard accounts if I am remembering correctly. Thanks to the person who posted above regarding linking directly to the HD version, couldnt figure this out.

mpeg2 is garbage.

for uploading to youtube, you want to use h.264, 1280x720, 3Mbps minimum video bitrate, if possible, and two-pass encoding, of course.
