Having introduced the new Power Shot 1-Pro with 8 MP; Is Canon planning to release a new EOS-20D with the chip(or similar) of the "old" EOS-1 (11 MP). Just wondering is anybody has heard any rumblings. Was getting ready to buy a 20D but will wait if there's a new model about to come out. There is a new EOS-1 with 16MP CCD.
Thanks.

I seriously doubt there is anything coming soon. Just get a camera and take pictures. You'll be happier.

The 20D has only been available since September of 2004 - so it's only 6 months old. So, it's probably going to be 6 months to a year before we see a replacment for it. More likely the year than the 6 months.

Yes, I would hope a replacement isn't made for at least a year. Don't wish to have my camera devalue so much. My guess is, it will be released in 51 weeks time, just after the world camera show. (PMA 20060. Just like the 350D was released just after the show in the past couple of weeks.
The 1DMkii may be in for a replacement in 9months as well. - That's just a pure guess. Have we got the bookmakers out on this one? ;) Place my $20 bet.

Now that I have a 20D, I can't blame the camera anymore for missed/crappy shots.
It's all my fault now, and the best thing I can do is practice, practice, practice.

Wasn't the 10D out for the better part of 18 months before the 20D came along? If that holds true it's likely to be better than a year before a replacememnt comes along for the 20D. And then, will the upgrade be worth the wait?
Speaking for myself (and others I've read) the 20D wasn't enough of an upgrade to chuck the 10D's and go for the 20D. Likely, unless you need specific upgrades, the next model probably won't be a huge leap from the 20D.
To me, an upgrade would be to the 1Ds MarkII :-)
Go for the 20D and enjoy it and don't worry about what, when and why an upgrade will come along. Far as I can tell, my 'old and outdated' 10D still takes an incredible photo!

I saw a post somewhere that outlined a timeline on how Canon has updated the cameras. The timeline showed that each new successor was 12-24 months later and Canon was pretty consistent with those timelines. Based on that, I bet that a 20D successor will show up for at least a year. I will also bet that the oldest camera in the current line (1DMII) will be the next to get a revision. Personally, I would like to see a model between the 20D and the 1DMII. There is such a gap in $$ between the two. Granted the two are quite different in features/build and so on, I do think there should be a model between. It would also close the price point gap that Nikon seems to have filled. It would give me something to look forward to upgrading too without making the major jump to the 1DMII.
Just my $ .02

Hah! I've just got a 20d. I don't need to practice, practice, practice to take crappy shots. I'm an expert at them already. The enlarged buffer means I can take them more of them in less time as well. :p

There will not be a model between the prosumer range and the pro models, there is no point. Canon will stick with the "1.6" sensors for the xxD range and the 1xx range will both go to full frame. That is their stated intent. They are in no hurry to bring out new models, so be happy with what there is now. We get these "I'll wait posts" every week and if we all followed that line there wouldn't be anyone here with a camera.

My hit rate's still going up, as I get used to my 20D and get better with my technique.

I'd be quite the unhappy customer if my 20D became "old" in the next few months. I don't have any money for a 30D? Think that will be the next name?
