I shot these with an XTi and my trusty 50mm f1.8. I'm no pro by any means but I was pleased by the shots I took. The lighting kept going in and out so the exposure varies by each pic. I decided to use the 50mm due to my close positioning cageside. I wasn't able to get real close to the cage though because of the other photographers next to me, hence more fence in the foreground than I would have liked.

Nice shots. With MMA, I personally don't mind the fence in the way as that is how I would see it from ringside. Nice catch with the punch connecting as well!

Some great shots for not being able to shoot right up against the fence. Did you have any trouble focusing with the 50mm f1.8? Looks like the lighting was very good for an MMA event. Keep it up!

Yes, despite the fluctuations, the lighting was actually really good, especially for a smaller show. The lighting at UFC's is pretty good.
At first I had some issues focusing but then I realized I forgot to set my point of focus to the center dot. Also, I set AF to One Shot. The 50mm focused well and at a decent speed. It could have been faster but I'm not expecting the world out of a $90 lens :)
BTW, here are a few shots I got from the UFC 90 weigh-ins. Nothing spectacular, a little underexposed but the lighting was less than adequate and it was hard to time shots with ten million flashes going off at the same time. I shot this using an old 70-300mm that I borrowed from my dad.

My favorite is the last - Anderson and Cote - face to face.
