Has anyone found the "new and improved" grip for the 20 D for sale yet? And question #2; can the grip be used with one battery or do you have to have two batteries in it?

New grip?

How can you tell the difference?

Well I just got the grip and it doesn't have the problem of showing a dead batery. It also fits snug unlike a couple of the other ones I've tried. Yes it does work with one batery.

The "revised" grip is supposed to have a "dot" on the inside that indicates that it has been modified. I would hope that the grip has been "reengineered" and the ones for sale now are working ok and don't need to be returned.

HHhmmmm Mike, were you trying to say something. Can you clarify.

And to answer the above question, there was a small problem with the original battery grip for the 20D. The way it was designed at times the top of the grip would lose conection inside the camera. this seemed to happen when the grip was torqued a certain way. I believe this was repaired by adding a washer somewhere, and putting in larger points at the top of the grip.

The grip will work with just one battery in it. I have one of the original ones and this weekend I found that it wasn't gracefully draining both batteries as it should. One ran flat and the system quit working. The other battery showed a full charge when I put it into the camera directly.

Well I got one of the supposably 're-designed' ones. Supposably if it has a serial number greater than 05xxxx then it is a new grip.
I however experienced the same problems I had with my original grip. Losing power when in portrait mode with my flash and in-accurate battery readings. I shipped it off to Canon Canada today for them to perform what they have called a "minor adjustment" on it.
