^^ when you do, come down to HB and will shoot. Anyways I saw you have the Aquatech surf housing. How was it? I use a Go-Pro HD Surf Hero last summer and like the video but not the still photos.

Yeah I have been hanging around salt creek the last couple of swells it only 5 minutes away from my house. The aquatech is ok. I like the feel of the SPL or Essex but i got it for a great price so could not resist. I have a gopro he hero and I agree video is amazing but photos suck. The new Gopro HD hero 2 is pretty good for photos. If you have a facebook look up "Robbie Crawford" he is a local from socal met him at the wedge he shoots with a HD Hero 2 and has some pretty amazing shots. I'm looking forward to the US Open I would love to rent a super tele but my 70-200 with 2x TC migh have to do.

Well I already picked it up. And yeah it's not great but it works. Ive gotten used to the water and enjoy the feeling of getting a cool shot while freezing cold :lol:

I have them. Just not a fan of the bokeh. I like to compose good backgrounds.

Sooo... edmyloo and I are going to the LA Arboretum tomorrow (Friday 2/17)... Gates open @ 9am, but will probably be there before 10am... There's a general entrance fee of $8 to get into the Arboretum, but I think it's $6 for students (must show current ID)... Anyhoo... Here's the link below to the location:

Shooting possibilities include peacocks, ducks, and geese... Plant life (possible macro compositions)... Landscapes (wide angle scenery)... And there's also a 50 foot waterfall (timelapse photography)... It's a tripod friendly environment, so bring that along... Bring your filters, wired/wireless shutter triggers, and water/snacks... There's a $4 tram tour (every 1/2, I believe) of the Arboretum, but for the most part we'll be walking from location to location... It'll be sunny but cool (highs in the low 70's)...

Anyhoo... Hope to see some of you join us... It would be a nice meet-n-greet-n-shoot for the SoCal group... PM me if you have any questions!!!

so, never really shot surfing before, what would be my minimum I need? Longest lens I have is my 55-250IS, but I also have a 70-200 2.8. Is that even long enough or will I need at least a 300? I could get a 1.4x pretty quickly and then of course I could borrow the 600 f4, but really, thats just a pain. Thoughts? Also, I would be shooting from the beach most likely and not on the pier as I am assuming that would be super crowded.

^ 200mm is decent... Although adding a 1.4x and having a cropped body will add extra reach; roughly 448mm... As far as location goes, if you get there early you obvious have your choice of shooting spot (pier or on the beach)... It just depends...
