I would but im only half American and have a bone disease that prevents me from joining up. I support the troops though.

I'm not questioning that at all

It's ok tq. I understand, but some comments are as bad as racial slurs to some of us. Just strikes a bad chord with me, that's all. Keep shooting!

I've got a friend in Iraq as we speak, another will be there in less then 6 months, another just returned. I am fully greatful and feel like less of a person for not doing the same...honestly.

It's just annoying how the recruiters around here act. For instance...they call, and call, and call, even though you tell them your not interested...they call and call.

I remember one day at highschool talking to a navy recruiter

Me-"The only way i would ever join the navy is if i was flying a fighter..."

Him-"you want to fly? I can get you to fly"

After a 10 min debate with him in the end he was saying
"Listen, i cant say for sure that you'll be flying, or even on the plane, but if you want to work with planes i can hook you up"

Yeah...mmmk

I'm bashing recruiters and their tactics...not the military.

It surprises me that when they are asking people to risk their lives for their country they don't even give them the decency to tell them to truth.

I listen to Chicago radio every day (on as I type) and they had a phone in about it, and some of the lies they tell are unbelievable! Thing is, it works. You should have heard the idiots that were calling in that believed what they had been told.

"It's unlikely you'll go to Iraq in the first 4 years. You'll probably just be in the US taking it easy for a few years"

When they are 20% short of their quota of troops? Do I get my own flying pig to get around on too?

I've got friends in Iraq right now, lost one at the beginning of the war. It is kind of sad that the military pitches service as a way to fund your education, I'm from a small town where the economy isn't great so many kids who go into the service do so for the money. I think they know that going to war is a possibility when they sign up, even if they don't believe it is a very real possibility.

That being said, the first thing I noticed about this photo was the girl on the phone. Until I read some of the comments I didn't really pay attention to the soldier in the background.

Also, it doesn't make the look on the army recruiter's face any less funny when my brother asked him what team he was on, green or tan? Like in the buckets of toy soldiers... man that was priceless.
