Is there a way to put my name inside of my 20D? Like where the EXIF data is kept and or stored?
I don't know that it would do any good if it got stolen . . . but might make me feel better knowing they would know who it was taken from.

I don't know, but maybe you could scratch it on the battery or cf door.

You can physically attach your name to the camera. Suppose you decide to sell it a year from now. Then what?
You can logically attach your name to the camera so that it is in the EXIF data. The EOS viewer utility allows this, but you have to have the camera hooked up to the computer.

Like Bob said, you can set the camera so your name is always inserted in the EXIF info. However, that's not really going to do you any good if your camera is stolen because the name can just as easily be changed to somebody else's name. But the serial number is always fixed and can never be changed, if that's of any consolation to you.

I don't want to 'carve' my name into it . . . just insert it into the exif data if that could be done. And from the responses it seems that I can do it. Just need to figure out how to do so now.
thanks . . .

I think the only way to set it is to connect the 20D to the computer with the USB cable, run the EOS Viewer and select Camera Settings under Options. I did mine a while back and I'm 99% sure that's how I did it.

If the space in Owner's Name entry allows, consider putting a contact number? Just in case some honest person pick it up from where you accidentally left it. And of course, he/she has to go through the steps to find out the rightful owner and all.

I believe Phil has it right ... I'm pretty sure that's how I did it.

EOS Viewer will take care of it. I find however it is useless so why bother

Just a cynical thought, If someone stole your camera, do you really want them to know more about where you live or work?

Just a cynical thought, If someone stole your camera, do you really want them to know more about where you live or work? No, but it would be kinda funny if the guy who stole it got caught by a cop who knew a thing or two about Canon camera's and found my name and number in the EXIF data. :D
