This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.
Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.
The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.
The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.
You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.
Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.
If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #147".
This is all about having fun so have at it!!!
Any edit, over-the-top creative or subtle, is encouraged!
This game will end on January 2( come on, give me New Years Days) ;0 at 5:00pm EST
This is an oldie..don't worry about imperfections on the original.I just really want to see your take on the look of the photo!

I don't have photoshop and wouldn't know how to edit this, but I like the idea of this thread. Does #147 indicate this is the 147th version of this contest?

Hello all. I have been watching this thread from the beginning, and I always try to edit the photos, but I'm not bold enough to post them for consideration. But here's my attempt this time.
Applied dust & scratches filter
Used layer mask to restore sharpness to selected portions of the image
Clone stamp to repair big scratches
Noise filter to eliminate grain
Slight sharpening with Unsharp Mask set at 50-1-1
Copied layer and converted to heavy Sepia tone
Merged sepia layer with original layer @ 25%

Only just found this series of threads, and have read them all this afternoon, some fantastic edits on previous ones. Thought I would have a go on this one and looks like I have gone in a completely different direction to everyone else. First time doing this effect as well :)
Here is my workflow:
Apply dust and scratches with radius=1 and threshold-31
Use healing tool to fix remaining blemishes.
Apply texturiser with canvas set to scaling=136,Relief=3 and light to bottom left.
Next I setup colour masks for all the colours I wanted to add and then exposed the appropriate areas for each colour.
Lastly I applied photo filter set to deep yellow@25% to tone down the whites and give the image an older look.

Great picture! I also was inspired to color this pic for some reason....my first time trying this as well. It was fun if nothing else! :-)
Dust/scratches filter
Cloned out larger defects
Then just numerous layers and masks to color the various parts of the picture....so many layers, tweaking colors/contrasts/hues/saturations/etc...I can't remember all the details

My sister is sending up some of the old family photo's to see what I can get out of them. I haven't played in the restoration arena at all so I thought I would try a couple things that I had read somwhere.
With that in mind, this isn't a get the most you can but rather a proof of concept to myself. I thought I would post my result's up.
This what I did ...new copy shifted right five pixals black mask,New copy shifted up five pixals black mask, and then painted white on the mask over things I wanted to disapear. (It's basically a clone stamp, just wanted to try the teqnique) Obviously I didn't get everything and even left some mistakes in.
And then on a new copy, soft light blend, black mask I painted the faces back in @ 100% and the dress at 50%
With practice I should have been able to do this in under 5 minutes...This took me, Well let's just say a bit longer.
Does anybody else think flo looks like a load of trouble at this age?

You all did so well with this oldie..
Monty.good stuff..I like the monochrome
Neumans.another good rendidtion.keeping the old look intact but with some repairs.
ihos...I really like this one colored! Very close to the original, which at its best was reddish tinited.them was the times!
Bodmin.cool effects with the color as well..maybe a little too greenish?
Being a fan of contrast.I went with Picture Disk. I appreciate that you kept ther clarity and sharpness while at the same time giving the photo al little pop;)
Thank you all for playin!:D
