Overexposed

Has anyone used EF-S17-85MM with the EW-73B lens hood on their 20D.
With the wide angle zoom does the hood show up in the exposure?

I have the hood with this lens.
No, the hood does not cause vignetting. But the best reason to buy the hood for the 17-85 IS is to keep your fingers out of the shot. The angle is so wide that even resting a finger on the filter ring can show up in the shot.

Yes I have this hood and lens and as noted you can shoot your finger . . . No problems that I have noticed with the use of the hood and lens.
I sure like this combo . . . the best little street shooter one could find.

I'm thinking about getting this hood for my 17-85mm lens, and I'm having difficulty in locating a place that has them. B&H...back ordered, unknown when more will arrive. Adorama...out of stock due to back order situation. Samy's...not listed on website. Canoga Camera...temporarily out of stock. :(
So... any other online places to look?
I also wonder what the deal is with these hoods and why they seem to be scarce...

I got mine from B&H.
My guess is that hood sales may not normally be high for standard zooms, so most places, and perhaps even Canon, didn't see a big demand. But get enough 'finger vignettes' and the demand goes up. ;)

Lately, it has been the 24-70 L, but that is because the kids have indoor activities in the winter (concerts, plays, etc), and the speed of the 24-70 L is the ticket there. Once it warms up (its starting!) and I shift to outdoor stuff, the pendulum will likely swing to the 17-85. The difference in size and weight is significant, especially if I am carrying a bag full of gear on my shoulder. There may be occasions where the 24-70 L is the better choice, all things considered, but I'm liking the 17-85 as a walkaround lens - it has better range than the 24-70 L.
