Took these with my new Canon 300L IS 2.8 and Canon 1.4 teleconverter. A Titmouse was also kind enough to land on the perch that I set up next to my feeders but I was not quick enough. (picture Fredo Corleone going for his gun in the first Godfather movie )

I was a bit surprised at the shallow DOF when shooting at 420mm. There's little room for error when shooting these little guys. Comments please.

I'm finding that even at f/8 @ 15' away I need to increase my DOF to get both the bird head/eyes AND feet/tail in focus!

Yes, I was about 15 feet away at f/4. I will have to experiment with a smaller aperture and use a tripod/monopod.

You would get a lot more views and comments if this were posted in the Birds sharing forum instead if the "talk" forum, if looking for more of a critical review of the images then the critque forum would be the place.

On the shots themselves it looks like you captured some nice detail however on each image there are exposure issues, the finch is under-exposed and the chickadee has gone the other way. A rough guess would put it about 2/3rd's of a stop in each direction. Welcome to the forum btw!

Thank you for your reply! I apologize for posting here. I finally figured out to post photos and I do it in the wrong forum

Welcome to the Bird Talk forum. It really is not the WRONG forum, but Brad was just mentioning that depending on what sort of feedback you are looking for, you will find that each forum has its own unique strong points in fulfilling particular needs. Since you had a question about bird photography technique, I would say that this is the right place to ask. For purely picture sharing, the regular bird forum will get the most views. The Bird forum is very busy so do not be too disappointed if the post scrolls off the page before receiving any comments. It happens to me a lot. The people there are very friendly, but during busy times, not all posts get the same traffic.

Thanks for the welcome and advice. People are definitely friendly here. (not to mention very knowledgeable).
