Here are the galaxies m81 (a spiral galaxy) and m82. Really hard to find them in the view finder, let alone getting them in focus. Technical info: Canon 20D, 800ISO, 63 second exposure tracked with a barn-door tracker, 200mm Zuiko lens, f4.

Hi,
you are so brave and persistent to capture those two galaxies with your digital SLR.
It's a great shot that can only be appreciated to the fullest extent by people who have a connection to astronomy.
I tried to capture M81 and M81 as well some time ago with my Canon G2. Therefore I was taken in by the title of this topic.

I agree with Ernst.
I enjoy photography and in a small way ( 4" Mak-Cass ) astronomy, but astrophotography is a whole new ball game.
The moon is one thing but planets and deep space is another.

Well done.

Thanks Ernst and Cameron. Even though the photo is a little fuzzy it still feels good to capture something you can't really see with the naked eye.

Ernst, your photo as some nice detail in the cigar. I've tried several stacking programs, but have had the best luck manually with photoshop. I too, usually stack about 5 or 6 shots at 15 seconds each, but I'm experimenting with my tracker to see how long of an exposure I can get. I also don't kow if my Olympus lens is actually focusing at infinity. Soon I'll get a larger Canon focal length lens. Should see some improvement, I hope. :)
