I would be grateful for advice, this is the state of the sensor on my 300D (taken against my bathroom wall at f/29). Is it acceptable, normal build-up or should I get it cleaned? I had a go with the blower, but this stuff seems well and truly stuck there!

Many thanks in advance.

I'd say clean it. Useful link on cleaning: http://www.pbase.com/copperhill/ccd_cleaning

I'd definitely clean mine if it looked like that, but the general rule is to clean it only if you see the dirt in your photos. If you stick it on F16 and take a sunset you'll definitely see that dirt, and maybe even at F8.

I use this kit (http://www.pbase.com/copperhill/ccd_cleaning) for cleaning my sensor, it's one of the two most highly recommended methods, it works well for me.

Canon authorised dealer in UK wants 47GBP to clean the sensor, with a 7-10 day wait as well! Think I'll be having a go with the kit from Warehouseexpress.com, 28GBP for a pack of 10 Digi-Pad Type 1.

Anyone had experience of the Digi-Pad please?

Or is it not wise to try it myself?

I've cleaned my sensor, using the CopperHill kit and technique and it isn't difficult. You need to feel comfortable working on expensive equipment and you also need to fee comfortable working in a small space with delicate parts all around.

I found I needed to clean it a couple of times to be certain to get rid of all the dust specks. Shooting pictures of clear blue sky shows the specks really nicely just as your bathroom wall does.

Don't go to Canon. It will end up more dust on the sensor. Order from Copperhills.
