I've been reading up and the gold type Phthalocyanine (thalo-sy-a-neen) dye type CD's are the best to use for archiving photo's.My question is what do you use to write on them.Bob Atkins says not to use markers that use solvents of any kind.So what should you use? By the way a good place to get Mitsui MAM-A Gold Archive 74 minute CD-Rs is http://www.american-digital.com/

Best Buy has/had a water based marker made by TDK that's supposed to be OK for writing on the CD. If the CD isn't full, I also try to write at the outer edges where no data has been written.

And when people tell me not to use markers (soft tip like sharpe) i as for where the test results indicating damage by these. I have yet to see any.
So as far as I know so long as the marker does not imediatly remove/melt the disk or scratch it it should be fine.
