but heres the problem: why do these people feel it necessary to post these attacks on ads that they see as overpriced or misinformed? We have a flagger(s) in the portland area that is downright inflammatory. If a fish takes the bait, do you criticize the fisherman? why criticize the fisherman if you think his bait is the wrong color or the wrong amount or his hook is too big? He is the one that goes home with no fish or gets lucky and scores in spite of doing it all wrong. Why does it matter to anyone but him and the fish?
I agree, there is some stuff that is comically priced on craigslist, but I am flat amazed at how rudely some flaggers attack other posters. These folks need to get more productive hobbies, I like photography myself.

probably wants to point out that he can find the item cheaper elsewhere. It's like being friendly and sharing information, so that other buyers will not get ripped out. Not everyone is a smart consumer and if someone is trying to scam someone for twice the amount, someone should say something.

My friend told me he was selling his 40D plus grip for $700 obo and this one guy emailed him and said,

quote "you know since the mark II came out the 40D is only worth $250-350 the most and just last week i got two brand new one for $450 free shipping, if you want i'll buy it cash for $250."

ahahahahhaah i don't know if this guy is talking about a 40D mrkII or 5DmrkII???, shoot if the 40D is that cheap imma go grab a few xsi next week for my sisters

If we posted every internet instance of photography-related baffoonery caused by not entirely reading or not entirely comprehending what was posted, we'd run out of space in short order. One could only imagine if there was a post for every instance of internet (any subject matter) baffoonery.

I'd say leave it alone and allow the seller to handle it (unless you were the seller), it seems like a petty waste of bandwidth and server space.

IMHO, those posts all had valid questions/points and none of the OPs had image files, yours seemed kind of like a rant about another case of craigslist shenanigans (plus I was more interested in your "RE:Snow Thrower" item in your taskbar). :p

My comment are merely my opinion, not a personal attack; I was actually kind of agreeing with you, the guy who went off on the seller should have read the post and/or just minded his own business, instead of wasting space.

You should post to the other guy on craigslist about how/why he is mistaken.

I watch craigslist every day, and every day I see personal attacks against people who are just trying to get as much as they possibly can for their items. I would bet most of the overpriced stuff doesn't sell, I bet some does. Its called a free market. Personally, I think a person has the right to ask for as much as they think they can get, and that a buyer has the right to pass on the price, unfortunately, aqnyone has the right to comment on anything they feel like as long as it is not slanderous or threatening. I wish they would find something better to do with their time than police the craigslist ads for items that are priced too high to sell. I like taking pictures myself.

An item is only worth what someone will pay for it. If you can get someone to pay $500 for something that is worth $200 - good for you! Provided you are not an established business selling new products. The used market is a different deal.

90%+ of all the stuff on the internet is wasted space to somebody.

I have no problem with somebody getting more for something than it's actually worth (I don't buy into "it's worth whatever someone will pay for it"). But, I also have no problem with somebody responding about an overpriced item and warning others. Fair is fair and it's actually a valid method to help keep the market honest. As long as they're accurate and not rude about it, of course.

Someone posts an add you can only send them a message (email) to reply to a sale. You can't leave comments or anything silly like that.

Lots of people trying to sell 35mm cameras for $500 having no idea what they are actually worth (don't people check ebay?). Those same cameras get relisted over and over again...
