Hey,

This summer I will be studying abroad in France for 2.5 months and I don't feel like lugging my expensive DSLR gear there for several reasons. I currently own a small Nikon Coolpix 2200 that is ridden with dead pixels so much the images are barely useable. SO I am looking for a new P&S for this summer and for general purposes. I checked out the A510 and I might be able to get it for around $130 online. But do you think it's too bulky to fit in a pocket or a small bag? I was also looking at the A70/A60/A75 models that are around the same size. What do you think of the size of these cameras versus slimmer models I have been looking at -- SD110, A40, S60, etc? Do you think I should go with one of the smaller models or is the size of these negligible compared to the A510? I don't really care about features right now, as most of these point and shoot cameras I am looking at are all the same. I'm mostly concerned with basic bulk. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I just bought a new canon SD110 from Amazon.com for $149, I keep it in my briefcase for work. For the money I think it would be hard to beat.

Do you ever find that it is too bulky?

am looking for the very same thing, I like the SD 200/300/500 for the compact size, this thing can go ANYWHERE, but you loose any manula control which would be nice sometimes. Hey mildot, how big have you blown up that 3.2 and keep the sharpness?? 8X10 ok??

I have the SD300/ixus 40.

Image quality is better than the S400/ ixus 400 I had before, except for the very corners of the image. And I mean the very corners are marginally softer, but so little who gives a monkeys!. The rest of the image is better as the digic ii processor is better than the original digic

The size is amazing, so light and small you really can take it anywhere. The screen is a gem.

I regularly print 8 x 10 and whilst it's not as good as my Olympus 765 for overall image quality, the camera is better - the best camera in the world is the one you had in your pocket when you saw that unique scene!

Buy one - they are special!

Not at all. But i look for the right bag. I don't know the brand. Not with me at this moment but Look for a small one. I even put in extra battery and memory.

But it's not thin small if that what you are looking for

Anything is small compared to a D30 :), but I was playing with a friend's A75 and it's a little bit big. Is the A510 a little smaller?

I have the A510. I read that it is 10% smaller. I know it only uses 2 AA instead of 4, and it uses the smaller SD cards vs CF. I use rechargable AA and am really happy with the battery life. I don't use it every day, but can usually go a whole week per charge.

Length and heigth it is only a little bigger than a credit card, but is kinda thick(1 1/2 inches ?). I have carried it in a shirt pocket and it fit fine, but seemed a bit heavy for a shirt pocket. I didn't really need a pocketable camera since it lives in my work bag.

Yeah, I read that the A510 is 13% smaller than the A70. I checked it out in Best Buy and it's pretty small. Thanks for the comment. Any others?
