This is the "hunted" that the "hunter" wanted to get an image of. Looks easy, huh?

Here is the "hunter" after finally sneaking up on the "hunted" with all the grace of a herd of water buffalo:):)

This is the "hunter" trying desperately to get back to the AZ before night fall. As graceful as ever:)

This is the "hunter" who is fairly well stuck until spring or until someone fetches a rope:)

That's how you get to be photographer of the year. You just get yourself stuck in one spot and eventually the picture will come to you.

That is a very impressive lens on his camera. Clearly his approach to wildlife photography is very similar to the Shock and Awe campaign of some fame just a year ago.

Well, one thing good about being stuck in snow almost waist deep is that it helps get the load off of the bum knees. :D

Damn that snow was deep. Alot deeper than I had expected.

While I was stuck waist deep in the snow the only the my good friend offered was to come and rescue the camera and lens. I declined as I'm sure I would have seen the Aztec speeding away....without me.

In the end, the shot wasn't worth it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Yes, we have alot of fun and that's a great part of it as well as the love of photography.

:D :D :D

I love the last one. The expression is like "Ok, will you stop taking pictures already and give me a hand here?"

Sheldon and Ian, thanks for all the excellent owl pics. I have to say this whole Great Gray Owl series was by far my favorite wildlife pictures I've seen posted here.

Maybe this is a silly suggestion, but has anybody considered using snowshoes?

How on earth do you hand hold that beast....

If you used snowshoes, that would give you a place to put down a monopod and not have it sink in the snow.

Is it wrong to be drooling like Homer Simpson when I see that Camera and Lens? Wow that's one awesome set up there. Very cool and so out of my league Steve Urkle has a better chance with Cindy Crawford then I do, having that Camera.

Bob,
The idea of snowshoes has entered into the conversation many times. Since we were not sure how long the owls would hang round, we never really pushed the matter. However, I do have several customers that sell high tech snowshoes and we will be prepared next year, even if the owls do not return.
It should be quite fun watch two guys with gimpy knees maneuvering across snowy fields loaded down with camera gear.:)
