Hi Ian,

Love to see the classic RWD cars in action. Fantastic pictures. That's some angle Ray Bellm has that Escort at!

Cheers,

Simon.

Excellent shots Ian :D

Rallying is something that confuses me. I thought the cars were supposed to be road legal for driving between stages but most of them seem to be driving with ilegal number plates. I wonder how they ever get through scrutineering in that state?

Love the Mk1 Escort - used to have one of those a long long time ago - 1974 RS2000

Do you know what model they are based on

RS1600
Mexico
or
RS2 - but with a G plate probably a few years too early for this

Great Shots, loving the monster truck look of the Puma

More awsome photos!

And as Im sure you already know you can never fail to please with MK1 scort photos, but the MK1 Lotus tina is just something special!
Is it genuine? There are not many left, and not many people are brave enough to race real ones.

OT, but speaking of Lotus cortinas it reminded of my second ever track day, where I ran my old but heavily breathed on Triumph 2500TC. I ended up lapping the Taupo circut nearly a full second faster than a well restored MKII Lotus Cortina, and over a second faster than a replica MK1 :D

The last shot is the best. The writing on the picture really ruins it. You dont need it size 72 font across the whole page. You should put it in the corner, or somewhere on the car like a sponsor.

Not really getting in the way of the cars, what you can't see in the photo is a rather large tree that would have protected me had one of the drivers got it wrong

Thanks Cadwell
Rally cars do have to be road legal if there is a road section and it is not unknown for cars to be scrutineered with a legal number plate on which is then removed for the stages;) , they then take the chance that they won't get pulled over by the boys in blue

Thanks Moppie
The cars which compete in the British Historic Rally Championship have to be genuine examples of the model and they always run at maximum entries as a matter of fact for this rally there were approx 100 historic enteries and 73 modern ones, I must admit I prefer the historic to the modern

It does have a Paris-Dakar like look about it to me.

Ian

That is cool

as the RS 1600 was a BDA if I remember right - far more horses than the RS2 but not quite as much as the Mkii Rs 1800 BDA

Cheers for the info

The number plates aren't illegal, you're allowed contemporary (black /silver) the SCR 41G is a bit dubious, but would you have commented if it'd been on a directors beemer? You'll see hundreds like this on any british motorway and the police don't seem to care, the scrutineers have more important things to worry about.

Great shots Ian, up to your usual standard. I'd hoped to be out at the weekend, but family commitments... It looks like I missed a good day. A guy at work was up at Rally HQ all weekend, I haven't had a chance to ask him how it went yet.

.

The stick on front number plate on the Puma shown is plainly ilegal... from a whole number of standpoints. I can also dig out any number of other rally car shots with ilegal plates, but it was a general question and not really related to these specific shots. If the scrutineers don't enforce the rules...
