I recently purchased Photoshop CS to help me download RAW shots. Before I open the package (you can't return open software boxes). I would appreciate any feedback pros/cons about this software. And is there a better software. I contemplated buying PHASE ONE, but at a price of $450.00 it seems to me it's overpriced? Thanks, Manny

Even if you get Phase One's Capture One,. you will still NEED PSCS...

So yes, it is money well spent.

On a side note,. some of the programmers of Phase1 went off and made a new FREE RAW conversion utility that many are liking more than Capture1

read about it and find the link to download it in our Post Processing forum :)

Before you put out for C1 try RSE. As for CS it all depends on your needs. You might want to take a look at PhotoShop Elements 3 , you could start there and upgrade to CS later if you need to.

Thanks, everyone for the advise! After reading in the "Post Processing" threads about how difficult it was for other photographers to install this software~~~ (YIKES)! It took CDS three times to load it! Should I even atempt to open the box? It seems that some of the members were raving about Photo Impact as a sufficient software to use?

It seems that some of the members were raving about Photo Impact as a sufficient software to use? Only you can decide that. I've taught PS & it's the standard, but you are paying for a LOT of features that you probably won't ever use. You'll get more help with PS here, but PS Elements @ $50-90 may be all you'l ever need. Or PI. Then theres the free GIMP @ gimp.org which is better than PE & had most of the PS features you'll use. And a few that PS doesn't.
I'm starting to like the free (for now) Rawshooter a lot!

I prefer CS, but for the price RawShooter's pretty good. They'll come out with a commercial ($$$) version some time I bet.

The Strategy

In order to pave the way for a fast market penetration, free versions of products are offered with the purpose of building a large customer base with installed software primed for the sale of upgrades. Hence, Corel Corporation (owners of formerly Jasc Software) has accepted to offer a free version of Pixmantec RawShootere essentials 2005 to their entire installed base of Paint Shop Pro users and additional Corel customeers.

The idea is to give everybody a free version (RawShooter Essentials) and when we're all hooked, we're going to have to pay for a more powerful version.

Ok Jesper, too bad you can't download the ''D'' thing~~~~!
Is there some kind of "secret code" to download this FREE software? I've been trying to download it since yesterday, and it's like "waiting for the ketchup to come out of the bottle"! What's Up Doc? manny

So, you registered, got the download link email & it didn't work?
You might ask in the forum - I've seen a few other people who had the same problem.

Did you get the email from Pixmantec directing you to the download?
