Vignette Questions - Canon 17-40mm [Cokin]

I'm looking to purchase a Canon 17-40mm here in the near future. I currently own the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L USM, but in many landscape photographs found in my photography magazines, flickr and elsewhere, I continually see the 17-40 being used.

I've read that this lens has vignetting problems, so here's my question:

What will cause this wide-angle lens to vignette less when using filters?

1) Should the Cokin BPW700 Wide Angle Filter Holder for P Series filters do the job?

OR

2) Go with the Cokin Z Pro Filter Holder?

I know I am limited to the use of only 1 filter if I chose the former option, the Cokin BPW700 Wide Angle Filter Holder, but I am okay with this, because I plan to use other [Singh-Ray] filters before adding on the filter-holder.

My set-up will probably end up looking similar to this:

Sorry, just had to comment...that has got to be the hokiest setup I've ever seen. Holding GND's and a holder with rubber bands? Wow. If that's yours, I'd seriously look into a different arrangement. If its not yours, don't emulate it.

Yo if it works it works. I rig my flashes up with bungee cords and A clamps or whatever the hell I can find.

I use a Cokin setup and never have to use rubber bands. What's with that?

The only reason I could think of re the rubber bands is that the screw-in filter doesn't have any threads for the filter holder? I couldn't imagine shooting with a setup like this - I can just imagine the rubber bands breaking or slipping off - bye bye filters!

I don't even have a filter holder that fits, I literally hold the filter infront of my camera haha. Dodgy as all hell I know but I can't afford a filter holder so I just make do with what I have :). At the age of 17 it does the job just fine.

I've used my CP in front a fisheye in the same manner!

I'm always amazed that people are prepared to spend thousands of pounds/dollars/beans etc. on top class DSLR's and 'L' lenses, and then spend next to sweet ***k-all on a decent filter and holder and resort to using some cr*ppy rubber bands.... ??? ??? ???

I never said it would or could affect image quality - I simply stated that I am amazed that people do this sort of thing, I liken it to fitting a dodgy old ill-fitting roof-rack onto an expensive car with a piece of duct tape and a bungee strap - Just a personal observation/opinion ;)

I own the 17-40mm lens and shoot with it quite frequently. I've used my Singh-Ray warming polarizer (thin mount) and 2 GND's with it with no or minimal vignetting. The secret: hand hold the GND's. It's easier than it seems.

FWIW, I used the Cokin holder for years and got rid of it after learning how to hand hold the filters. I've also used duct tape to hold them in place but again, hand holding works much better. Give it a shot...
