Mark

Great captures! Will you share the info on your gear? Glass? Camera? Strobes? Do you shoot through glass or through a hole in the glass? Rubber hood against glass?, etc.

Thanks all,

I shoot with the D3 and for these I had the 70-200VR attached...#2 also had the 1.4TC on.

All shot through glass except #2, shot from between the players benches. All are ambient light.

1,3 & 4 are ISO 1600 f3.2 Shutter is between 1/800 and 1/1250. Auto WB.

2 is ISO 2000 f4 Shutter 1/800 Auto WB.

Thank you for sharing. Do you push exposure +1/3 or +2/3?

P.S. What's this VR (Nikon) stuff? You do mean IS, right? :)

well done...as always. You do an exceptional job with framing your shots. Can't believe they're through the glass though. My local rink is horrible to shoot through. I experimented shooting through the cutaway and it improved my shots tremendously. Of course, my camera is limited by a max ISO of 800 ( and that has tons of noise) and my shutter speed is limited to about 1/250 by the ISO. I can't wait to get a camera that works for hockey photography, hopefully by the Calder Cup playoffs.

Which camera you thinking of getting?

Looking to upgrade to a Canon 20D or 40D (the 40D has a solid FPS over 6, which definitely has an advantage in hockey photography). If I could afford a D3 I'd go for it in a heartbeat, but this is still strictly hobby for the foreseeable future. Any input or advice?

I loved my 30D when I had it, and was/is a great hobby camera. So I would probable go for the 40D, but check out what its like with current owners.

No matter which you get, have fun and post a few...
