I'm in the process of preparing my shopping list for B&H (I'm in New Zealand so need to get it right first time...) I note that Hoya UV filters come in Multicoated and Super-Multicoated. Apart from the price diff, is there anything suggesting that the SMC is to be favoured over the MC? I'd appreciate advice.

AFAIK the more expensive it is the more coatings it has and the less likely you are to get lens flare. They also get thinner, and have front threads.
Gota get me some extension tubes from there some time.

Hoya MC makes my sigma 70-200 soft, and also it sometimes does not focus correctly in ambient light because of the filter.
So, you want the SMC version. Is this a skyline or a polarizer filter? IMHO sky filters are a waste... polarizers have to be SMC.

Looking at UV filters. it's a while since I've bought a UV - I have a collection of coloured and UV Hoya filters for BW photography from my earliest days in photography, so I'm getting up to speed with the current crop available. Looks like I'll go for the SMC. DOes anyone know if they are front threaded? That's the case with all my other filters.

I use the Hoya Super HMC PRO-1 UV.
Multi coated and very thin and yes it the front is threaded.
