I notice that a lot of the links to photos here are hosted on Pbase. I am a member of photobucket, but just joined Pbase figuring if everyone here uses it, it must be better. I paid the money and uploaded one picture as an experiment: actually the second picture I took with my 1Ds MKII on the day I bought it at the aquarium in Coney Island, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Ever since, I've tried exactly the same procedure to upload more photos and cannot meet with success. It says uploading, but never gets to creating thumbnail as it did the first time.

I've emailed them twice but they don't answer.

any hints as to what I'm doing wrong?

Try to ask a question on the pbase forum if you don't get an answer here, it may take awhile.

My limited experience is it never really creates that thumbnail before your eyes in edit mode...you have to refresh or go back to gallery before you can see the picture...

Usually you have to refrsh in order to see the thumbnails. That beig said, yesterday afternoon Pbase had hic cup and thumbs were not being shown even though the full sized images were.

For 23.00 a year Pbase offers reasonable value for what you have paid.

They have recently gone through a number of server and software upgrades and have had their issues. They seem to be slowly working through these issues.

I've always found that the best way to get answers there is to post on their forum. Don't expect any answers from the people that actually run this thing as I have yet to get an answer from them on anything I ever sent to them. There are alot of power users on the forum and you will normally get an answer in a very short period of time.

In response to your question, once you have uploaded image(s), near the top of the screeen it will tell you that it is complete and there will be an option "Display this Gallery". Clicking on this too quickly will take you to this gallery but your thumbnails will say, building thumbnail images. Give it a minute or two and refresh, you should be away and running.

Yup- SSIM has it correct. Do not expect "instant" anything with pbase. Having said that and dealing with their occasional hic-ups, they are a good gallery site. A bit of patience on your part will help a lot.

Experiment a bit, you'll learn the old fashioned way - trial and error ! What the heck, you already paid yer money!
