I like aspects of both - in the second, the skidoo is not cut partly off on the left of the frame; however, I like the angle of the trees / grass, as well as the sharp shadows on the snow trail. If you could have turned the skidoo a bit more to the left, and opened up the crop a bit more, but used the camera angle of #1, I think you'd have a winner.

Well, for me, they are both losers in the composition. They remind me of a lot of my photos: Boring. I think I might have liked them more if they had someone driving the snow mobile. Maybe you intentionally didn't include them to convey some meaning but... Sorry.

I like the first - the wavy contrasty lines add interest to the composition, and I like the closer angle on the snowmobile better.

Ouch! These are not stellar images suitable for major competition, but I don't know that I'd call them losers.;) It's not the sort of thing I'd shoot, but they #2 is beyond a plain snapshot. He did ask which one was better.

Yes, very poor choice of words on my part. I didn't mean that. My critique is the composition is the weak point of the photos. And as sapearl pointed out the question was: Which is better I vote 1 for the wavy tracks.
Still friends? :)

I think the first could be great if the side of the machine was not cut off and there was a longer trail of tracks in the background. So maybe if you had moved over a bit to your left when shooting it.

#2. It removes the snow in the far background compared to #1, and it doesn't cut off the mobile as #1 does. #2 is just simpler, and simpler most often is better in photography.

Welcome to the Critique Corner on POTN.
I am not quite sure what the machine is since we don't get snow and ice here, but I an guessing that it might be a snow or ice recreational vehicle. Looks like lots of fun.
I prefer image #1 because of the more interesting composition. It gives just enough of a a glimpse of what looks like a lake in the background to tell a story about what has been going on or perhaps about to happen ... this is good because it pulls in the viewer's interest. The exposure is very good and shows good detail in the snow. The one improvement that I would suggest is to give more space in front of the vehicle.

1 is great because of the way the background gives you spatial perspective
2 is great because you can see the whole
They are both very clear, like you could touch them through the computer screen.
If I had to choose, it would be 1.
Nice work from where I sit.

Ditto. I like them both for clarity and color. However, I like the first image better (if only we could have the entire snowmobile in the shot).

The colors are decent but I dont like the crop. It would be better if you could see more of the sled from a side angle. If it was an arctic cat it would be much better lol but then again your sled is running and mine is in the garage with a broken crank.

#1 is the best compositionally but let down by part of the machine cropped off.

Why do so many people assume that photos are cropped? It is very clear that the 2 photos posted are different photographs taken from different angles.
Please refer to it as "composition" which is the proper term.

I would love to see #1 composed a little different. I prefer a head on shot of the sled (focusing on the crystal clear headlights) and straighten (level) the picture a little ... seems to be lower on the left. I really appreciate how you show NO FOOTPRINTS in the snow ... nice work!
