I've just updated my gallery with images from our latest trip- tramping (or hiking or bushwalking) on the South Island. Four days walking, four seasons of weather! Despite the sometimes damp conditions it was an excellent time...

Nice gallery - the scenery sure looks stunning there. And the weather must have kept you entertained.
Did the Keas cause any problems? They didn't eat your gear!

Ha! That reminds of me of my trip to the South Island. I'm parked in my rental car when a kea drops down and lands on the hood. I think to myself, "oh cool, I've got to get a picture!". So I start digging around in the back seat to find my camera bag. While I'm trying to find the camera, the kea works its way round to the passenger door where the window is slightly down. I finally locate the camera case when the kea starts ripping out large strips of the rubber molding where the window seals to the top of the door. So now my dilema is whether to shout at the bird to scare it away or to go ahead and take the picture. I chose the latter. I fired off a few shots while it kept shredding the molding. Alas, my shots didn't turn out and the kea did quite a bit of damage to the door!
Anyway, thanks for bringing back that memory Damian!

Bookster,
I enjoyed your gallery! Especially the shots up high along the ridge tops. So will we see shots of the Milford or the Routeburn in the future?

As soon as we get back there for another quick holiday you will- though I must say there is too much choice when it comes to tramping in NZ! We were thinking of either the Routeburn or perhaps Mavora lakes- greenstone valley...
The single Kea in Iris Burn valley was very inquisitive- at one point he took off, and we were convinvced that he was going to land on my bright red rucksack raincover! Needless to say we moved pretty quick...
