Its refreshing to see a review that doesn't barf up the specifications that have already been discussed for 3 weeks...

From the article:
"I found that the 350XT performed very nicely as a professional tool, and frankly, if I had owned it, rather than it being a review loaner from Canon, it's so inexpensive that it would have paid for itself just that first morning."
I admittedly know nothing about the prices photographers command out in the field, or anywhere else for that matter. I took that to mean he made $900-$1000US for photographing the construction site? Is that right? It doesn't seem right to me but I really have no clue.
Anyway thanks for posting the review. I haven't finished it yet so back I go.

Interesting indeed.
I don't really find the MENU interface that cumbersome. He forgot to mention that you can press JUMP to toggle between the different menu category. The camera LCD is also set to +3 brightness on default, he should've increased the brightness to +5 and it becomes comparable to the 10D at +3 (which is bright enough).
The viewfinder is small......however, it is bright..........and I have no experience with the 1 series so its not a big issue for me :-p
Interesting review............I agree with him about the ISO!!! I mean, this is just about the SILLIEST thing that Canon or any camera manufacturers have not implemented............HOW HARD CAN IT BE???? And there's enough space in that mono LCD to put three numbers in!!! COME ON CANON, DO IT!!! Now I'm all riled up!!

I just moved up to a 1D and I can attest for the fact that a 1 series viewfinder makes A LOT of difference; not only in composing the scene but if you do any manual focusing it is a godsend. I have found this to be the nicest surprise so far in handling a pro camera.

If you check the review now it has been updated with the jump button switching the heading feature. I emailed the author before roanjohn's first post in this thread because I knew a Canon A80 can do it, so I guessed that a 350XT should be able to but I didn't know which button. After a short exchange with the author where I pointed to this thread and mentioned roanjohn's posting of the jump button it was updated. :)

I agree it's nice to have a review that focuses on real use and less on tech specs, which can be had anywhere.
From what I can gather it can take great shots, might be a bit small for some andit seems the controls may be unnecessarily cumbersome. The VF being smaller than the 20Ds is a disappointment.
So no real surprises. For me the biggest thing is the controls / menus. If they are not very slick to use this can have a sad influence on their use. Yes, you can get used to anything, but it's great when a piece of equipment is built around the actual usability needs of the user.

By the sounds of the all the reviews, this is the best value for a camera in the canon line. I think this is far better priced then the 20D but is alot closer in terms of performance then the rebel was to the 10D.

I think it goes even further and exceeds to 10D's performance by a small margin.

You know, other than for the size, the XT is a great little camera. I too am avoiding being tempted by the 1 bodies, and I never go near them when I see them at high end shops. :p

Dont worry about the 1 series bodies. you can get one in a couple of years for less then a $1000 My buddy who works for canon let that cat out of the bag. Canon could put on a camera right now that is light years above what is out now. They just have to pace themselves! and, so do we... LOL

I believe you. I remember back about 3 years ago reading an email by a friend of mine who worked for Intel in NM. He said that he had seen with his own eyes air-cooled processors running at 10 GHz in Intel's development labs. This was back when 2 GHz was considered tops.
Maybe I should look into investing in Canon. ;)
