Wow, I have been a member since 11-08-2002 and I have less then 200 posts.

I come to this forum almost everyday but I guess I read to much without letting my fingers attack the keyboard. Yup, I seem to be more of a lurker than a contributor. At least I am not a troll.

So, here I sit looking at this and telling myself I need to do better about communication.

Type more, spell-check less. It works well for some of us, and really works well for one of us... :-)

And don't worry about thinking....that slows you down. Look at the people with the most posts. (especially #'s 3 & 4....they obviously don't think about what they're going to say before they start typing)

I wish this place had a spell check. It is not that I am a terrible speller (I admit that there are things I misspell but who doesn't) My problem is that my fingers don't want to hit the keys I tell them too and I am terrible about proof-reading. That is something my wife always gets me on.

No, don't type more! Just a word or two will suffice, like "Wow!", "Awesome", or even an emoticon or two ( ). What you REALLY want to do is keep hitting that "Post Reply" or "New Topic" button every chance you get 'cuz that's where it counts.

By not having spell check this is a great place to discipline yourself on spelling. Think of it this way, one day while out shooting you come across a very newsworthy situation and contact the local newspaper. Yes they would love to see what you have. Send it in and do an AP style caption in the file info section in PS. That way they will know what, when, where, why, who and how. You send it in with the atrocious spelling common to certain members here...no names to protect the guilty...

The editor gets the files, checks the captions and sees this atrocious spelling and grammar and while he may use the image in the paper, he will also form an opinion of you that while a good photographer, or a lucky one, your not very well educated. On the other hand if the images are good, clean and sharp, the captions are well written and informative, the editor may think to himself that maybe he has found someone who can cover one of the local high school's football games and he won't have to research to find names of players in the shot.
The more you can do and the less the editor has to do will make you shine in his eyes and put you on his favorites list.

No, just noticing how long I have been here and my post count. I am notorious for not communicating frequently online (I have my photo blog, an LJ account and a magazine website that I should be giving content to but am seldom spoken there as well). I get into these little spurts where things get posted and then I slag off. I also now that the amount does not mean more important, but the content of what is posted is what really matters.

But, thanks for comenting to give me a chance to comment back and stick one more notch on my count ;)

Actually my comment was based on the statement by Belmondo. He's a MODERATOR! (some even say The moderator) so he must know what he's talking about.

And check out the number of posts he has. There is probably some secret moderator area where they can just go and post smileys. Its the only way you can explain numbers like that. :)

True IndyJeff. I'm lucky enough that anything, aside from forum posts, that will be used for "other's eyes" goes through my personal editor (my wife). I'm also lucky enough that since I am co-owner of a magazine I have a small team of editors ready, willing and able to give my stuff a once over. With that said, YES I know that since I run a magazine (especially since I run a magazine) I should be paying more attention to how things appear. I do take advantage of the tools at hand and when typing articles spellcheck is a great tool.

Hypocritical? Maybe a little, but at least I am trying. :)

Opps, sorry.

Maybe since they are moderators they can go in and just put whatever numbers they want. ;)

CDS is living proof of that concept.

IndyJeff

The magazine is called The City Morgue

We are a non-profit magazine whose purpose is to give an outlet to undiscovered writers, artists, etc. We do have a goth, macabra style to the magazine (if you couldn't tell from the title). We also have regular columns (food, music reviews , movies, etc.) to round out the content.

Nobody gets paid for their work on the magazine (the submitters or the staff) but end up reaching an audience and having portfolio material. We, the 6 of us, do this more as a labor of love since we actually pay for the majority of the bills with subscriptions, ads and donations cover the remaining balance.
