OCEAN BEACH SUNSET

I haven't shot a sunset in a while, so I headed down to Ocean Beach after work yesterday, and came away with these:

I'm mildly happy with the results I got, although it's apparent to me that I have to get out there some more. I'm also going to wait until there are a few clouds in the sky. Sunsets with some clouds, to me, tend to be more dramatic...

The third shot is amazing, the bridge adds to the shot a lot. The sun is great and the man with his surfboard.

For the first one, I was using a tripod, and the shutter speed was, if I remember correctly (always suspect), just under a second (.8 ?). The sun had already gone down, but it was still light out. The water has the effect I was going for to a degree. More experimenting, I suppose.



The second picture of the pier was one I didn’t really pay much attention to. I did, though, realize the surfer was walking along in the shot, and I thought that might add something.



I wish the water in #2 looked like the water in #1…

Steve, nice shots of the OB pier. #1 would be my favorite. I like going down there for some surfer shots. You can get some good shots from on the pier. Parking is such a pain down there though. I know what you mean about clouds. I've got a few pics from So. MIssion that would be anything special without the clouds.

Those are all very good. However, I agree you need some clouds to make a great sunset.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

It was really the first time I'd set out to shoot a sunset. Others have posted shots here of water, taken at a long exposure, which made me want to try that.

Next time, clouds...
