I have the wireless remote for XSi. I don't care for it much because it doesn't have the half press function on the button. Do any other remotes have this feature?

Which one do you have? I seem to remember when I had me 300 & 350D that the IR remote had a half-press option.

RC1 I believe?

OK, that was the one I had. I guess I stand corrected as the online hits show it can't be used to half-press the shutter. Sorry for the confusion.

You can go with a wired shutter release.

If you're talking about the Canon RC-1, I disagree, the half press does work. But you do have to have a clear sight of the camera sensor, I agree it can be a fiddly device to operate correctly.

Personally, for that reason, and the fact that it can only operate in front of the camera, I prefer a wired remote.

Thanks Pete. I'll fiddle with it and figure it out.

I'm going to hijack the thread for a bit. Would half press shutter for the cleon still work if you map the autofocus button to *.

No. No release that I know of, wired or wireless, can cope with a remapped AF button. All they give you is whatever your shutter release is set to do; if that doesn't include AF, you won't get AF with the remote release.

Thanks! Good to know. That might become a hassle. Then again how often would I use a wireless remote :)

Is my RC-1 defective? No half press.

Possibly, the half press should work.
