I've been looking at reviews that were sparsely posted recently about the Contax N Digital, the very first full frame DSLR camera. Apparently this camera was pulled right after release, and Contax never released anything else. Does anyone know why?

It had lots of problems and was merketed very badly. The history of the N is floating around on the net in various places, you can read up on it of you want.

It didn't operate very quickly, had poor noise performance above ISO100, used a fairly small selection of expensive lenses, and cost $6,500 new. The 1D was out at approximately the same time (give or take 6 months) and was compatible with a larger offering of lenses, cost the same and operated more smoothly with better ISO performance. The one interesting thing about the N was that it allowed ISO25 and ISO50, apparently without clipping highlights badly.
