In my seemingly never ending quest to photograph a family of ducks near a creek by me, i seemed to have taken a wrong step.
*note to self*
Water proof boots do not mean you can get any closer to the creek
Oh...and in case your wondering, i didnt get the shot. Aparently the sight and sound of a photographer trying his hardest to get out of mud that is at least a foot and a half deep is enough to scare them away.

I know the feeling.
I hiked through 6 ft high grass covered in dew to get a pic of a deer by a marsh. I left with no pic and soaking wet pants.

Yeah, it sort of makes you feel a little silly... But on the other hand, if you got the shot you know it was totally worth it. No matter how many corpses you had to walk on to get it. :D

Okay, just taking a quick inventory....
Red eyes,
Greasy hands,
Muddy feet.
I'm starting to get a little concerned about which portion of your body you're going to photograph next.
Please be careful where you sit.

LOL reminds me of a time once when I was on a frozen creek in minus -30 C and hit a soft spot of snow and water that for some reason didn't freeze. Except my leg fell in and 1/125th of a second later I was pulling out my leg not even getting wet.
So are your shoes ruined or were you able to hose them off?

I can relate. I often go at lunch to marsh and lagoon areas around my work trying to photograph whatever wildlife I can get close to without scaring away (which often isn't very much :( ). It feels a bit awkward stomping back into the office trailing mud everywhere. The cleaning crew must hate me.

too funny. I so wanted to stop and take pictures of some really beautiful flowers and flowering shrubs today. We are having a very cold cold snap her in East Texas. I chickened out since it was cold and rainy and I would have to climb at least to the top of a fence if not over it to get the shot. Maybe you have inspired me to take a risk. Or, maybe it will warm up by in the morning.
Thanks for sharing.

I bring my Camera almost everyday to this spot where there are gophers, when ever I do, they are hiding and when ever I don't they are out and about. They almost seem like they can sense when I have my camera in the car or not.
Today was a kicker, no camera and it snowed last night so they were running around in the snow. I would have loved to take pictures of that but (ARGH!) forgot the camera today. Ah well I am betting I am not the only one who has experienced that.

Aahah...only on a photo forum would you read this.
BTW, the boots will be fine, thats what they are for.
My mom decided she needed to buy me some boots, so she went to LL beans mag and bought me a rather comfy rather water proof pair of boots. I wasnt going to complain.
To my suprise, my feet were ineed dry, and my socks were white.

Look at it this way. It would have been a more challenging picture if you had fallen on your A*s. Must have been fun cleaning those shoes though. By the way, did you get the Smoke Smell out of the clothes you were wearing at the fire yet?

She was there during the flames, although i still think mine are a little better as i got a little closer. We pretty much have the same shots, except hers have huge balls of flames. And the shot from the top of hte ladder looking down on the burned out building sure helped
Oh well...at least my church vollyball league shots made it

I often had my feet looking just like that
thick with muck
this is one on the mountains two weeks ago
looks not too bad here
I just wanted to get the depth of the snow
it looks like none clung to the shoe but it did
right up to and way past my ankles.
sometimes nearly to my knees
your shot is good to see
everyone will relate to it

They always like Flame. Your pictures were great. It is all about timing. When you get there late, take the shots you did. Then, look for people shots. Tired firefighters with shoot all over their face are almost as desirable as the flame shots.

hmm I thought that was why they made long lenses.
