Basketball without anyflash or strobes (for a change...lol)

So our big Christmas Tourny is over and I had a blast shooting again for about 12-14 hours a day for 4 days. Its like my final four, I just love this tourny with team from all over.

ps, ISO 1600, ss 1/500 at f1.8, post processed in Aperature and ran through Noise Ninja on all of them

You mean cameras work in a gym wtihout artificial light? Strange. :)

These look great. Only complaint is the arms in front of the faces, but that's just nit picky. You did good on the color cast from the cycling lights.

I'm leaving work and loading my suitcase in the car to head to the gym as soon as I click post on this message. I wish I could just take the camera and shoot ambient, but instead I'll take:

3 Alien Bees
4 Pocket Wizards
6 SuperClamp studs to mount on pre made brackets on the gym walls
Stands and umbrellas for T&I shots
Laptop
4000 pound printer
4 miles of wires and cords, (10 miles are already installed at the gym)
2 daughters (not in the same suitcase) with their basketball clothes and cheerleading clothes to change into.
and (note to self) don't forget the pom poms.

The sick part is that I'll love every minute. :) Gotta go!

I like shooting with out the flashes mostly cuz its so much more simple and it allows me to move about freely and not worry about ppl messing with my stuff!

Great shots! Horizons are where they should be. But help me to understand some of the cropping. It looks like you picked a couple of standard sizes 4x6, 8x10 or ... and have done a great job.

Yet #1 has those extra limbs on the left-hand side that could've been easily left out. #2 is fine and thankfully you didn't scalp the 2nd offensive player. Last one has the clenched hands and half a head on the bench at the left that might be cropped out.

I have had issues with cropping. Here is why.

I sell them on Smugmug, on there the BUYER can crop anyway they want, problem is they usually have NO IDEA what they are doing.

I try to crop to get rid if the extra parts and pieces where possible, but lets say I crop to a 4x6 cuz that fits best, well when the buyer gets on there they try and make 8x10 crop fit (not realizing that they can chose many differnt crops or they are just too lazy to find one), of course it doesnt so they chop of hands feet heads and other vital parts...lol

So, to try and compensate for peoples stupidity, I crop extra wide nowdays so when they go on my site and hack the crap out of stuff at least there is a chance they will get thier whole kid in their crappy crop...LMAO...

does that make more sense?
