I am picking up a left over Canon 300D tomorrow new in the box. My question is if there is any updates on firmware or any other drivers that I need to install on the new camera. I called canon and they seemed to think that a new camera should be ready to go. Any help or information you can provide will be greatly appreciated of anything I need to do. If I need to install anything on the camera what is the best way of going about doing it. I have seen a hack for the camera, and was wondering just what this helped out with the camera. I am going to be taking mostly outdoor nature photographs and not very fast motorsports pictures with this camera. Again any information anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a nice day.

It's fine out of the box. I used the old firmware for over a year. Finally "upgraded" to the hacked Russian version just to get a couple of features useful for flash photography.

Should be the current firmware on a new camera mine is 8 months old and had the current one on when I brought it.

The Hack enables Mirror Lock UP, ISO 3200, Flash Exposure compensation amongst others. Search on google digital rebel tricks will bring up a page all about it.

when I had my 300D I used the undutchable's hack. Takes Wassia's one step further. Worked great. here is the LINK (http://www.syeager.org/300d/forum/index.php?showforum=4) . Think you have to join the forum to get access. Oh where are these cameras "left over'? sounds like freebies....LOL
