No thats her crib. Its a sleigh convertible crib :) I actually have a mommy friend who helped me a bit understand. She doesnt shoot in manual, But I do, so i had to make some adjustmants to what she said. She said To set the flash in Manual mode, and use the Set and +/- buttons to increase and decrease the flash amount. To play with it. Once you find your "groove" stick with it. Now that problem I had with that was because i shoot manual mode (i like to be in control).... That i had to also set my camera. I set my camera first. I used ISO 100 (that way the flash can compensate for any light not there), shutter speed was 1/200 (seems to be best for when using the flash), and f/ 2.5 ( this I had to play with as well to get a sharp image without going overboard with the flash. Then I set my flash to fill in the light that was missing. I saw the in M mode, 1/1 was WAY too bright... so I went to 1/2, then 1/4 , and finally found that 1/8 seemed to be best for that shot.... it was trial and error, but once i get the hang of it , I wont need to play a guessing game anymore.

That's a very nice photo. I would put the flash in auto but leave the cam in manual.
you are safe in an environment like this with a non moving target with a broad range of SS and f stop. The trick is to decide what you are looking for. The two things I think about are dof and ambient light.
For example, ISO100-400, SS of 1/60-1/200 and any f stop from f/1.8 ->8 will work for this shot, but change the dof and how much ambient light you let register- you know that you can adjust the foreground exposure and the background exposure somewhat independantly - FEC for the foreground and the cam settings for the background.

RebelChick...love the photo. Very well done! Lighting is prefect!
I love natural light...but unfortunately real world situations often need a flash. Just for fun and experimenting...try using manual mode on the camera like you are used to, but set the flash on Auto. I shoot in Manual mode (camera) 90% of the time...but I shot the flash in Auto mode 90% of the time. I hardly ever us manual flash if my flash in on camera.

This Shot was actually i think 1/200, f 2.5, ISO 100 and Flash was set to M 1/8 . I did soem experimenting with flash on auto but hated the effects. I am getting used to controlling the amount of flash... thankfully !
