Hello,
This is a shot in the dark for advice.
I have a client who wants to purchase the rights to my photos for his inspirational sayins and I don't know how to handle the situation.
He exclusively wants my photos, he needs 50 in total. So how do you price something like this? He's a local person who seems very nice, it doesn't seem shady in any way.
 (confused) I don't want to scare him off with my offer.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thank everyone!

I would tell him what you want to get, see if he flinches, and then negotiate! Once you say your price, ask him what he was thinking. Then go from there.

License the images to him for a fixed period of time with a renewal available at the end of that period.
Explain that to sell the rights to the images outright would not be in your best interest and is something that is frowned upon in photography circles. You have to consider possible future income in selling the rights and that would make the images cost prohibitive to him.

He can have exclusive licensing rights for say 1 year. Upon renewal of that license there would be no exclusive clause. A discount for the renewal but without exclusive use. If he wants to keep them exclusively, then the renewal rate would be based upon the average rates nationally at that time for similar use.

Where would one find those rates?

Thanks,

Check this site for a guide on prices. You will need to know how he intends to reproduce them.
