I cannot seem to determine if (forsure) the lens hood is included or not...does anyone have any xp with Dell.com? Do they give you a hood?

I ordered my 70-200 f/4L from Dell and it came with the hood and pouch. I got my 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS USM from B&H and it came with the hood and case in the box with it. hope that helps.

All the L seires lenes come with the a case and the lens hood for them as far as I know. As long as you get it from a reputable dealer like Dell or B&H it willl come with those items.

I got my 100-400 from Dell and it included the hood inside the Canon box, along with the white carrying case. My only complaint was that they shipped the Canon box with virtually no packing material, so they left it to bounce around during shipment. It took forever, but I got them to send me a properly-packed replacement.

Buy from any reputable dealer, and that L lens comes with a hood and a nice case.

By the way, when mine was brand new, I took it along to a wedding. I really did not expect to use a long lens like that at the wedding, but you never know. As it turns out, I got some shots of the ceremony clear from the back of the church.

However, as I was in the back of the church, a Nikon shooter walked past me and saw the nice case and asked me about it. Of course, I told him it was the standard case for the lens. He wanted to buy it off me right then and there!

Boy, those Nikon guys must be desperate!

The 100-400 comes from the factory with a case and hood. Unless a dealer is underhanded and sneaky and removes the case and hood from the box.....
I though I would hate it before I bought the lens. It is not as nice as the retractable hood on the 400 F5.6 prime and I was used to a fixed (like a BIG prime) heavy metal hood on my previous 100-300 f4, but it is actually not that bad and I am growing to like it. The hood is a matte black plastic and has a bayonet type mount. The nice thing is that it is reversable. So when not in use, you simply take it off, reverse it and stow your lens in your bag.
