It is never easy to lose those that we love...look deep into your heart...she will always be there....she left her footprints. I have shed many tears and loved many dogs, the key for me anyway, was to fill the empty hole with a new furry friend---it doesn't make you forget, just let's your heart expand to fall in love again.

My cousin's dad has an English Bulldog that is totally a part of the family. They just removed huge tumor from his belly. He had to have it done by a 24 hour vet. You can only imagine the cost financially.
He is now taking him to a vet at Michigan State, a couple hours away from him for the best specialist care. The costs will surely be in the thousands.
He doesn't know if he has 2 weeks or 6 more years. Probably the 2 weeks and he isn't a man of wealth.
At a Christmas party another relative commented that there is a point where you cut your losses.
I immediately said no and that this is truly a special bond. They are family. You find a way to do anything that might help no matter the cost.
Point is, that I feel so bad for you because they all are just wonderful special parts of our lives. It just plain sucks that they have relatively short lives.
I really hope you will post pictures of your new friend when you are ready to bring him or her into your life.

You never really do. I had to put my last one down. I am 67, he was fourteen. I also bawled like a baby and I still think of our days together and sometimes when I see some of the antics of my present pup, it reminds me of happy times with his predecessor.
Hang in there. BTW if you haven't seen this before, google the Rainbow
Bridge.

oh mervin,
I'm crying tears for you because I know what this is like having lost 3 of my beloved pets. It never goes away but it does get easier to cope with as time goes by.
I'm so sorry for your loss - I hope the pictures you have will help you remember her when she was in good health and happy.

It's ok to cry mervin. It takes some time to work through the grief. I know that type of love, heartbreak and loss of that "once in a lifetime" dog. The more you love, the more the loss hurts. ... but don't forget the love. She'll be waiting for you on the other side when you get there.
You've got some nice photos .. She's a beautiful girl. My heart aches for your loss.

I lost two dogs last year - one to cancer and one just because she walked to many miles next to me - she was thirteen. Someone sent this to me:

You are not alone I did the same a month ago. Time will heal you a bit but you will not forget. your tears are a measure of you love for your friend and are no shame.

That's a total bummer. Sorry about that one. As a K-9 handler and dog lover I feel your pain. So hard to lose a wonderful pup. She looks like she was a wonderful pup.

I am very sorry for your loss. It takes time to get over a loss of a family member.
We have 3 cats in our household. We lost one a few years ago. He was only 4. It was sudden and unexpected. He had some kind of stroke and died in my arms in my house and I felt absolutely helpless because it was so sudden. Me and my wife cried like little babies. He was gone literally in a matter of 2 to 3 minutes. I have never experienced anything like it and it took time for me to get over it.
So his little sister was left without her older brother. We've added 2 since then. Last year we almost lost the middle one. She was only 3. She was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Failure. She was good as gone, so it seemed at the hospital. I couldn't contain my tears as I watched her helpless in the cage taking IV fluids. But miraculously, she's still with us. She's a fighter and although this is a permanent condition, we "manage" her health. We spent thousands of dollars on the emergency, medicine, fluids, but it was all worth it.
Folks without pets don't understand. They ARE part of the family. Not LIKE...but ARE. That's something they will never understand.
It's OK to mourn. You need to do so eventually.
I look at the Male Persian we got as our third cat. He's the youngest and he's nothing like the "Big brother" Male that we lost. He's a brat, spoiled, and a pain in the rear. But he's unique in his own way and we love him just as much.
Life just wouldn't be the same without them!
