My new Digital Rebel XT arrived about two hours ago. Here is my first impression. I was expecting small, but it was fine! I was using a Minolta A2 which is about the same size - so the Xt felt just fine. The lens I bought is the 17-85mm and it dominates the camera. It took me about five minutes to get used to it (smile). Its nice to have a lens that says actual focal length rather than the Minolta's pretend 28 - 200mm. The battery is tiny. It charged in about an hour or so. The battery charger is small too, so I won't mind packing it.

The camera fits snugly in a LowePro Top Load Zoom (TLZ) mini. I like using a minimalist camera case that slips into my backpack. The Xt comes with a compact manual that is handy to take to the field. It measures about 3" x 4" and is 8 little pages long - with an accordian fold.

Looking through the finder after my Minolta was amazing. The Minolta has an electronic viewfinder and it is supposed to be really good. The difference is night and day - the XT is MUCH better.

I left most of the setting where they were from the factory and walked around the yard snapping anything that looked interesting. After 44 pictures I put the CF card into the card reader and took a look. I bought a Lexar 1G for cheap. It says 4x on it. While in the camera I didn't notice any lag, but uploading to the PC the card is definately slower than I am used to. It takes maybe a second per picture to upload.

The pictures were ALL sharp and perfectly focused. I am amazed at how fast it is. The Minolta was zooom, zooom, zooom, beep. The XT is zpbp. The pictures are much sharper than I am used to. I am very pleased.

Good for you Daveh6700.

I have a question, when you shake the XT do you heard some noise form the built in flash (the noise of the 2 metal arm supporting the built in flash)?

I'd recommend getting an 80x Lexar 1gb. On my XT I can shoot full quality pics at 3 shots a second until the card is filled. It's weird...I was expecting that 14 shot buffer but it never stops taking pictures!

HKFever, yes, I just shook my XT and you hear those two brackets shaking.

Do you shoot in raw or which quality JPG?

Have you tried lowlight/night shots?

Just curious about how well it focuses.

Yeah, I do with mine. It goes away when the flash is open. I think this is an extra feature. :)

Thanks for showing the pics. Looks great!

How easy have you found it to focus when you're shooting in low light?

My 20D does that, but it slows down somewhere between 25-30shots, does it slow down or just keep on going? If so that is a cool feature!
