Goodbye Dell hell. Hello Macbook Pro. I cant wait....

It's looking really nice... just watched the videos on it and the only thing I am iffy on is the permanent battery. I doubt it lasts for 8hrs or 1000 charges in real life - it's more like 5-6hrs and 800-900 charges - which is still substantial and better than most. $50 charge for matte screen should have been instituted for the 15" MBPs too :( Overall, it looks like a solid machine but it's too big for my use (and I'm saving up for the new Mac Pro :D)

Others seem to think Apple is going to come out with a new iMac and Mac Pro tomorrow along with a Mac Mini - but I seriously doubt it. The Mac Pro is the more likely of the two, but cost wise it doesn't make much sense for Apple. The Mac Pro is already a premium product, adding a brand new CPU, motherboard and memory is going to be insanely expensive until companies start kicking in major production. In any case, I'm saving my pennies until the next model comes out.

$2800 for a notebook is insane. I think for that price they should hook up a sweet deal on a cinema display as well so if your buying it it can be used and marketed as a desktop replacement.

Congrats-let us know how you like it. I just got a new Dell today. :D

I agree. They are expensive but Dell is sending me a new fully loaded studio for all the problems I have been having (which I will quickly sell) so it won’t be so bad.

drooooooool.... perfect excuse to pass on this MBP to my wife and get the 17"... I'd have to get the new 256 SSD though... OUCH $3900

SInce I can't afford both the 256 SSD and the 8 GB RAM, I have to choose one or the other . Any recommendations ? What would make my computer faster for photo processing (Aperture , DPP, occasionally Photoshop CS3). ?

Considering the same decision, I'd pick the SSD. I have 4G right now on this new 15" MBP and I don't hit the memory wall very often, if at all, with photo processing (CS4 / LR2) because OS X is so good with management.

I also think memory prices for the 4G chips will drop faster in price than big, fast SSDs.

RAM is easy to add later on (at least with most notebooks; I haven't opened a MBP yet.) I just ordered 2x2GB (4GB) DDR2 800 for $40 shipped.

I hope you have a Santa Rosa MBP, because those SO-DIMMs will not work with the 9400m.

Nope, just talking DDR2 RAM in general since Apple usually overprices RAM upgrades.

I've been waiting for the new 17" to be released. This is going to replace my desktop so I think I'll enjoy the 17" over the 15".

Still have not decided if a MBP is the way to go tho. Its just hard to drop that kind of cash on a computer. My other possible option is a HP HDX... not sure if its really worth the extra $$ for an apple.

Apple Users are you happy with the premium price you pay for an apple product?

Gee, that won't be a biased answer. ;)

I made the move to apple last year--- LOVE it! But they are a bit pricy ----- I bought my iMac from apple refurbished. I do not need the latest -- just the best price.

The HD is also dead simple to replace now in the new MBPs. Takes about 2 minutes.

With this last generation, they've been giving good trade-in value for the chips that normally come in the laptop, so going from 2G to 4G was only $150 -- about the same you'd pay for the 2 x 2G chips retail.

I'm envious... Some cash strapped person in my area sold her brand new loaded 17" just before Christmas for only $1500. I missed buying it by about one hour, as she had just sold it.

I don't want the 17". It's too big and heavy.
I love the 15" though..

Not the new ones.

I DESPISE GLOSSY SCREENS. Photo editing is a BIT*CH on a glossy screen (I know from experience with glossy iMacs)...

So I'm going to wait for the next release of 15" MBPs and they better have non-glossy screens.

I really don't see what the big deal is with glossy screens. I actually prefer them. I also have a second monitor if I need it.

I've always hated them. Until I owned one. :)

If you work indoors then it's no big deal - I sometimes work out in the field and need to show a client some photos and without good shady spot it would be near impossible. That said, I have the glossy screen myself :D

its a pain with the new ones...i have a new mbp 15in and if there is any black on the screen you can clearly see yourself...its a real real pain...only time it looks good is watching videos

so i think I'm getting the new 17" MBP...i just want and wait until there are a few tests and benchmarks released. really interested in the ACTUAL real world battery life.

I think I'm going to buy in store....I hope that they have the matte displays in store also so you don't have to make a custom made to order mac via online. Anyone else prefer the glossy over a matte? If that's the case than I might spring for some other upgrades, har har har!

Don't buy in store your just wasting money. Full retail plus tax?

Thanks...i guess saving the taxes on a 3k machine may help.

I can buy applecare from one of these vendors also correct? when i have a problem do i have to send it to the vendor that I purchased it from or to apple with my applecare?

Kronie

If you wait a few months you could probably save a few hundred dollars off retail and no tax.....that's my plan. I would also buy Applecare from EBay (http://shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=applecare+macbook+pro&_sacat=0&_fromfsb=&_trksid=m270&_odkw=applecare&_osacat=0): Much cheaper than buying from anywhere else and use can use it at any apple store if you need to.

I would love one, but I just travel too much. 17 is just too heavy to lug around (at least for me). So 15 inch for me.
