Congrats! I'm not sure how many husband and wife teams are on the forum but there can't be that many.

At least now Skip won't have to wait until Maureen's back is turned in order to use the 20D :) :) :)

I don't think I would have purchased the 28-300..
I have seen 1 or 2 decent images, but no good write ups.

Congrats on the purchase .. enjoy it ..

I'm sure my camera got lot's of illegal use while I was slaving away here at work!!! But I think we are going to have tons of fun together with our Dueling D's....we like to travel as well as take pictures locally, and also of our grandson. Those cameras are going to stay awfully busy:lol:

It's fun to be a husband & wife team here on The Forum...you guys have all been great.

lol @ the sarcasm.
hey if he is happy with it, then cool.
But I wouldn't sit here, act fake, and not be honest about my thoughts.

The love of photography and the fact that we have something we both can share together has made my relationship to my wife stronger. When we only had one digital, it was tough. Getting two cameras was a great investment for our relationship and led us to our youth sports photography business.

Ovi: It's nice to meet another set of 20D users. We are in a good space in our lives right now...no money worries, time together' relatively youthful, our children are out of the house and no longer financially dependent on us...:)

So we spent a bit of our hard earned money on photog equipment and the fun and conversation we have has given us a new common link as well as something fun and exciting to do together after all these years.

Thanks for the support.

Congrats Skip! Awesome set up...

I had a Sigma 28-300mm for a while,. it served it's purpose and was a good learning tool. It's certainly nice to have the one lens flexibility at times.

Congrats :)

I'm not offended about questioning my choice of the Tamron 28-300. A guys gotta start somewhere and I wanted a minimum 300mm zoom. After purchasing the 20D and other stuff it looked attractive by combining features & price. Especially price. Haven't hit the lottery yet. It is also much smaller & lighter than the 100-400 L. I need a versatile lens to pack on my VFR on my annual trek to Laguna Seca so weight & size are right up there with $. I hope the Tamron works out, either way I will have learned something.
I read all your opinions hoping to learn something.
Thank you all.

Yeah, I wan't knocking you, it was just a statement of how I feel about the lens. I just have issues with compromise lenses. Man your lucky enough to go to Laguna.. I really wish I could. Our nearest track is Lime Rock in Conecticut. I hope I can make it up there for a few shots. I think you will like the 20D for sports, just remember to zoom in when reviewing your images to check for proper focus, or blur.
Good luck with the package, I went nuts when I got my 20D first. Now I am doing the photo a day thing.. just started..

Enjoy.

Bruce I really thank you for the input. I looked at your web page, I'll get there someday. I know, practice, practice, practice. Unfortunately almost everything is a compromise. For me the perfect lens would be a 28-400 2.8L IS (never mind it doesn't exist, perfect world , remember), the size, weight and price of my Tamron 28-300.
We would also have nickel beer & dime cigars and 50cent gas.
Ah, well. Back to the real world. Laguna Seca is great. I would also like to get to Lime Rock and some of the other beautiful tracks on your side of the country.
Nike is right on this one, "Just do it."

oh the excitement! My box of goodies is UPS and away, winging its way across the Pacific to New Zealand at this very moment.....Nifty 50, 70-200 F4L, 1.4 teleconverter, other nice trinkets... I'm granted salivation!

I got carried away....I meant to congratulate you Skip and Maureen. Nice to have some cash to spend on something other than hungry kids! Know what you mean about the grandson. We've got two, and now that my wife has taken up using use my G1, we enjoy sharing the fun even more. (She has to pass an exam before using the 20D...)
You'll need to post some shots of Laguna Seca sometime.

Yeah Iain...it does feel foreign to spend money on ourselves after 3 kids, years of sports, clothes, shoes, hobbies, choir, school trips and college costs for them. Sometimes we aren't sure if we should spend it on ourselves, but then we get over it!!!
